Fergie, Joe DiMaggio and Helen Hayes seem an unlikely trio – a current rock star, a legendary baseball player from the ‘50s and the “First Lady of the American Theatre.” The common thread? They’ve all partnered with Avon at some point in the company’s 128-year history. They’re three celebrities in a long list of film stars, singers and designers who have loaned their names, their cache, and sometimes their faces to the iconic company for women.
During the late 1940s and 1950s, the latter part of Hollywood’s so-called “Golden Age,” some of the biggest names in American stage and screen were featured in Avon advertisements, including:
  • Rosalind Russell of His Girl Friday and Auntie Mame fame
  • Loretta Young, a film icon
  • Claudette Colbert, the star of It Happened One Night, lauded for both her dramatic and comedic talents
  • Jimmy Stewart (along with his wife), the MGM star of It’s a Wonderful Life

Fall Skin care Tips

It happens every year; summer winds down and the cool weather slowly makes its way in. As hard as it can be to pack away those shorts and summer dresses, it feels good to drag out the sweaters and the jeans.
Don't forget though, just because your jeans and sweaters cover your skin doesn't mean that you can take a break on your skin care regimen. Proper care can mean the difference between healthy skin and dry flaky skin.

Here are 10 skin care tips for fall to keep you looking beautiful through the fall season.
 - Shuji Kobayashi/ The Image Bank/ Getty Images

1.  Reassess Your Body Cleanser

In the summer, fruity shower gels are a popular treat, but just be sure that your current favorite isn't going to dry out your skin when the dry cold weather comes in. You'll want to find a shower gel that is soap-free as well as hydrating. In the fall and winter, I like to put away the gels and bring out a creamy body wash. Like Avon's Supreme Nourishment Body Wash followed by the Supreme Nourishment Body Lotion.

2.  Try an Creamy Based Scrub
I think creamy based scrubs are perfect for fall and winter because you are getting the exfoliating benefits with the extra bonus of hydrating oils. I prefer Avon's Planet Spa Amazonian Treasures Creamy Body Scrub available online only at Avon.   This creamy body scrub exfoliates your skin for a soft feel and a glow. Infused with exotic extracts of Brazilian Acai Palm Heart and Amora Berry Fruit and Vitamin E, this formula leaves your skin feeling pampered and polished. Scented with notes of sweet ripe acai berry, exotic orchids with a hint of sweet coconut milk and warm woods for that perfect spa experience.
Planet Spa Amazonian Treasures Creamy Body Scrub

3.  Moisturize Every Single Day

I can't stress this enough; if you want to keep dry skin at bay, you must hydrate your skin on a daily basis. The best time to apply your lotion is right after you've dried off after your shower or bath. Seal in the moisture that's already been absorbed into your skin. Skin So Soft Firm & Restore Body Lotion. Experience delicate blossoms and sheer floral. Makes skin look and feel dramatically firmer and tighter.

4.  Analyze Your Skin

When the seasons change, you may notice your skin type changes as well. This is the time where some with oily skin might notice their skin turns a bit normal, or those with normal skin might consider their skin is suddenly dry.  Watch your skin as the weather turns cold to see if you need to change up your skin care products and switch them accordingly.  Check out Avon's Moisture Therapy Line.  There is a lotion for every skin type!!

5.  Organize Your Skin Care Routine

With facial masks, facial exfoliators and other extra skin care steps, it can be hard to remember when you applied your last peel or took the time for your last mask. This is a problem or irritation that you won't ever have to worry about if you take the time to make a skin care routine.
I know it sounds funny, but if you know that every Sunday morning you'll apply a facial mask, and Tuesdays and Fridays are saved for exfoliating, you'll no longer have to think about it. Make your schedule for the days that work best for you and stick with it. Your skin will have the constant benefits, and you'll see it in your face. Check out Avon's Clearskin line to find the perfect skin care items just for you!

Avon Sun+ Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 40

6.  Don't Forget Sunscreen

Just because you may not be laying on the beach doesn't mean you can forget the sunscreen for the next 6 months. Sunscreen is a daily essential, so don't set it aside.
Use a moisturizer with SPF 15 at the minimum and reapply with a facial sunscreen throughout the day as needed. One of the best facial sunscreens around is  Avon's Avon Sun+ Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 40.  This lightweight lotion has broad-spectrum protection against the sun’s rays. Absorbed quickly, leaving skin feeling moisturized. Dermatologist-tested.

7.  Remember Your Feet

Repeat after me, "I will not let my feet go without proper care this fall and winter". Say it, and mean it. Your feet are going to be stuck inside your boots and heals for months to come, and if you continue taking care of them and exfoliating them on a regular basis, you'll have no problem popping back on your sandals when the time comes. Plus, having nice feet just make you feel good!   Try the Foot Works line by Avon this is an amazing product line that you feet in ecstasy!

Foot Works Beautiful 5-Piece Spa Set

8.  Invest in a Cuticle Oil

One tell-tale sign of cold weather is dry cuticles. And many times your regular hand cream isn't heavy-duty enough to tackle dry cuticles. By investing in a cuticle oil, you can quickly take care of the cracked skin and avoid that painful condition that's so wide-spread in the cold months.
Simple apply oil onto your cuticles and rub in. Do this a couple times a week for best protection.

9.  Ditch the Pastel Polish

Fall is a great time to take a look at your nail polish collection and see what you are lacking in terms of deep colors. Pack away the cotton candy pinks and pastels and bring forward the burgundy's, plums or even grab a chocolate brown, which is bold, but easier to wear than black. I love Avon's nailwear pro+.

10.  Indulge in a New Hand Cream

Your hands are in and out of water on a very regular basis, so you need to apply moisturizer more frequently to your hands than the rest of your body. That's why it's so important to have a hand creme in your handbag. When you are out and about and need to wash your hands, you'll have the hand creme by your side instead of at your sink. (Which of course you should have one there as well!)
Even if you don't like the scent of highly scented lotions, you can find a fun hand cream to spice up your day. I love Avon Care Silicone Glove Protective Hand Cream or have fun with mark"s Dreaming of Jasmine Hand Cream .

#TBT: A Look Back At The Rich History of Fragrance At Avon

Fragrance is — and always has been — at the heart of Avon. In 1886, a bookseller named David H. McConnell offered perfume as a gift with purchase with every book he sold. Pretty soon, it was clear that his perfumes were more popular than his books. From Musk to Sweet Honesty to Imari, Avon has a habit of creating unforgettable best-selling scents.
Are you ready to take a fragrant walk down memory lane? Browse the below photos for a rich evolution of our fragrance offerings, with a few top notes of nostalgia and base notes of beauty.

Avon Stellar First Impressions

3 No-Fail, Fresh Faced Looks For Making A Stellar First Impression

As the saying goes, you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. Whether it’s a celebration like graduation day a promising job interview (cue nerve-induced upper lip sweat) or meeting a new client for the first time, you want to look as good as you feel — or maybe even a little better. And what better way to accomplish this than picking your favorite feature and taking it to the next level? We are talking bold brows, intriguing eyes and standout pouts.
Read on to discover how to define your favorite feature, helping give you the confidence to create that solid first impression.

All About The Brow

The brows are your nonverbal communication’s communicators — potentially revealing all your emotions (nerves, excitement, surprise) during a first impression — which is why it’s important to keep them bold and beautiful.
After a quick grooming session, pencil your brows with a shade no darker than two hues deeper than your natural color. We suggest Avon's Glimmersticks Brow Definer for smooth, glide-on application. Next, apply an illuminating eyeshadow like Avon’s True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Berry Love. Brush a layer right below the brow line, as well as the inner corner of the eye to highlight and brighten the brow’s surrounding area. Keep the rest of your regimen simple so the focus stays on your fierce arches.

Read Between These Lines

Experts say maintaining solid eye contact is one of the most crucial steps in making a good first impression. So why not draw attention to those deep browns, baby blues or ivy greens with an elevated liner? Grab Avon’s Glimmersticks Eye Liner in Blackest Black and line the entire eye. Then balance out the intensity of this technique with a flawless dewy glow. Take a light foundation, we suggest Ideal Flawless Invisible Coverage Liquid Foundation, and swap the powder for an illuminating bronzer like Avon’s Glow Bronzing Pearls.

Give Em’ Some Lip

Looking for an instant confidence booster to calm the inevitable first impression jitters? Look no further than an eye-catching lip. A saturated, semi-matte hue — we are partial to the vibrant shade of Ultra Color Indulgence lipstick in Rose Bouquet — can help you feel polished to perfection. Swipe on Avon’s SuperExtend Winged Out Mascara, and you’ve created an unforgettable look in two simple steps.

4 Summer Makeup Tips

4 Summer Makeup Tips to Consider

4 Summer Makeup Tips to Consider
Lighten Coverage- In the summer heavy makeup tends to feel…well, heavy. Instead of your typical medium-full coverage foundation opt for something lighter so you don’t have that melting feeling.  Or better yet, use a foundation that’s buildable like Avon's Ideal Flawless Invisible Coverage Liquid Foundation just apply a thin coat of foundation.

Use Bronzer- Even if you’re not spending time outdoors you can still get a little glow!  Use Avon Glow Bronzing Powder(is buildable) to give you that healthy glow look.  Do not apply all over the face see the picture for a guide.

Get your Glow on- Use a moisturizer with SPF. You can use Avon Skin Revitalize Instant Radiance Lotion alone to give you skin a natural glow with the protection of SPF 20. Simple, easy, beautiful!!

Use Multi-Purpose Products- Summer is all about easy, this goes for the products you use, too! Remember this summer season is all about being BOLD so don't be afraid to use bright colors.  For example, I love to use creme eyeshadows to add a little touch of brightness & color to the lid that won’t budge all day because it can also be used as a primer!  Additionally, I like to use lip products that have longevity to them.  I’m loving Avon's Ultra Color Lipstick with its rich, vibrant stay-true color and lightweight feel. There is a shade for every skin tone and mood!

Remember to go BOLD this season. Make a statement with either you eyes or lips but never both. Makeup should bring out you own beauty not cover it up!! Be beautiful in your own skin, it will show through!!! Have a awesome summer!!

Must-Have Summer Dress

Little White Dress – Must-Have Summer Dress

The little white dress is definitely the must-have summer dress, so you should get yourself one for this season. You will love to wear this type of dress on your vacation, as well as after you come back from some tropical place and want to show your beautiful Sun kissed tan.

White is a neutral color that goes well with everything, so you won’t find it difficult to style your white summer dress. The type of shoes you choose to wear, will depend mainly on the style of your dress. For instance, if it is a casual one, you can pair it with some espadrilles, flat sandals and even with some sneakers. Or if you go for a more fancy dress, then you can pair it with your favorite chunky heels or lace up sandal heels. And when it comes to the color combo, feel free to pair your little white dress with whatever color you prefer for your shoes. Black, brown and beige is definitely a good choice, but if you wish to make a statement, then opt for some pastel or maybe even neon colored shoes. A white dress can be found in various styles and can be made out of various materials. If you are looking for a white dress that will give you a trendy look this summer, we suggest you to get yourself an off-the-shoulder dress or maybe even a shirt dress. These type of dresses are the hottest ones for the summer, so choosing them in a white shade is definitely a good idea. Scroll down now to see several street style looks with little white dresses and choose which one is your favorite style. Enjoy!

Choose Colors for Contouring

Choosing Contouring Colors
Click on picture to watch a video

It’s time to talk about the single-most overlooked cosmetic product/technique by the average woman: contouring make-up. With the right combination of highlighting and lowlighting shades, you can adjust the look of your features in myriad ways. You can make your nose appear slimmer, your eyes deeper and your jawline softer. You can soften the look of jowls and hide the wattle beneath an aging chin. All it takes is a little practice, some patience and just the right colors for your skin type.

I’m going to break with tradition here and tell you now that there is NO need to go out and purchase make-up specifically labeled as contouring make-up. In fact, some makers are getting away from the “specifically purposed” cosmetic products and appealing to the modern shoppers’ sensibilities by marketing the products that are basically the same as multi-purpose items.

The truth is you don’t need a specifically designed “contouring make-up” for proper contouring of the face all you need is a make-up that is a shade darker and a shade lighter than the make-up you use for your foundation. It’s just that simple.

What Kind of Foundation Works Best

You can use any foundation formula for your contouring make-up, and if you have a brand and type that you absolutely cannot do without, then by all means stick with what you love. It will make it easier for you to master the contouring application techniques if you feel comfortable with the medium with which you are working.

Facts about the 60's Hairstyle

Breakfast At Tiffany's Breakfast at tiffany's
Facts about the 60's Hairstyle
Beehive. Do you remember Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" looking stunning in this style? The "beehive" is also known as the "B 52" because of the similarity in shape to the bulbous nose cone shape of the bomber aircraft of the same name. It has survived in some circles today into the 2000s; the women in Gary Larsen "Far Side" cartoons are almost always depicted with a beehive "do" and Amy Winehouse sports one.

Regency. Remember Mr Darcy in "Pride and Prejudice"? He had the perfect Regency look in the BBC production of "Pride and Prejudice". Beau Brummell, who is credited with the introduction of the suit and tie fashion for men of the Regency period, sported this look. Hair was worn short at the back and as curly and wild as possible in front. Sideburns, if they could be grown, were also considered to be the height of fashion. A statue of Beau Brummell was erected in fashionable Jermyn Street, London in 2002 in recognition of his contribution to fashion.

Lipstick History and Trivia

Lipstick History and Trivia
Interesting Lipstick Facts

Lipstick has very long and quite interesting history. It has been rung the bell with fashionistas since ancient times. The first lipstick is considered to have been invented in the Ancient Egypt more than 4 thousand years ago! And then it was used all the way from common women to empresses. All the more it is hard to imagine today’s woman with no lipstick glitter on her lips. But have you ever thought that this miraculous inhabitant of every makeup bag is more than meets the eye. Thus I’d like to bring forward some interesting lipstick facts for you to keep up.

Let’s start with the history of lipstick origin. As I’ve already mentioned lipstick was invented as far back as 4 thousand years ago. At that time lipstick of dark shades was in common use. For instance Nefertiti preferred to use lipstick made of mollusc shell nacre, while Cleopatra opted for the one made of red ochre. But unfortunately such lipsticks were very toxicant. (Apparently right then the expression “kiss of death” really came into use.)

History

decoration-dayGen. John A. LoganMemorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America. Over two dozen cities and towns claim to be the birthplace of Memorial Day. While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it’s difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day.
Regardless of the exact date or location of its origins, one thing is clear – Memorial Day was borne out of the Civil War and a desire to honor our dead. It was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11. “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed. The date of Decoration Day, as he called it, was chosen because it wasn’t the anniversary of any particular battle.
On the first Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, and 5,000 participants decorated the graves of the 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried there.
The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I (when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died fighting in the Civil War to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war).
It is now observed in almost every state on the last Monday in May with Congressional passage of the National Holiday Act of 1971 (P.L. 90 – 363). This helped ensure a three day weekend for Federal holidays, though several southern states have an additional separate day for honoring the Confederate war dead: January 19th in Texas; April 26th in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi; May 10th in South Carolina; and June 3rd (Jefferson Davis’ birthday) in Louisiana and Tennessee.

Red Poppies

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMoinaMichaelStamp
In 1915, inspired by the poem “In Flanders Fields,” Moina Michael replied with her own poem:
We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
She then conceived of an idea to wear red poppies on Memorial day in honor of those who died serving the nation during war. She was the first to wear one, and sold poppies to her friends and co-workers with the money going to benefit servicemen in need. Later a Madam Guerin from France was visiting the United States and learned of this new custom started by Ms. Michael. When she returned to France she made artificial red poppies to raise money for war orphaned children and widowed women. This tradition spread to other countries. In 1921, the Franco-American Children’s League sold poppies nationally to benefit war orphans of France and Belgium. The League disbanded a year later and Madam Guerin approached the VFW for help.
Shortly before Memorial Day in 1922 the VFW became the first veterans’ organization to nationally sell poppies. Two years later their “Buddy” Poppy program was selling artificial poppies made by disabled veterans. In 1948 the US Post Office honored Ms. Michael for her role in founding the National Poppy movement by issuing a red 3 cent postage stamp with her likeness on it.

National Moment of Remembrance

The “National Moment of Remembrance” resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans “To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to ‘Taps.”
